June 20, 2025

The Zinzendorf School of Doctoral Studies successfully concluded a week-long series of oral defense sessions for the Doctor of Ministry (DMin) Program, marking the culmination of the 2024–25 academic year.

10 DMin candidates from diverse ministry backgrounds took part in the defenses. Each session, lasting approximately 90 minutes, included a candidate presentation followed by a Q&A and evaluation conducted by the doctoral committee.

Representing diverse concentrations such as Education, Mission, Business, Youth Ministries, and Design, the candidates addressed timely and innovative topics related to Christian faith and ministry. Several focused on developing new strategies for evangelism and mission to advance the fulfillment of the Great Commission.

DMin candidate Alma Osorio-Ford presented effective communication strategies for the evangelizing Generation Z, drawing on her extensive experience in campus ministry. Dr. Tom Cowley, Director of the DMin Program, commended the students for the exceptional quality of their work.

Reflecting on her journey, DMin candidate Olivia Lin — whose research focuses on Business as Mission — expressed deep gratitude: “As I looked back, my heart was filled with thanksgiving. Though I had many weaknesses, God’s grace sustained me. Prayer was the central theme throughout—from the decision to begin the program to the writing of my final paper.”

Doctor of Ministry Graduate Reflects on the Meaning of Christian Education

AUGUST 2, 2024

Dr. Jamie Pan, a new graduate from the Zinzendorf School of Doctoral Studies, wrote a dissertation titled “Fostering a Passion for Building Godly Character: Integrating the Experiential Approach with an Emphasis on Drama Method.” She shares her reflection with thankfulness and hope.

Dr. Pan’s doctoral project aims to engage K -12 students in applying biblical values through process drama activities. Olivet Academy, where Dr. Pan has been serving as a bible teacher, has adopted her experimental project and has seen phenomenal results. The project successfully fosters a collaborative community united by parents and teachers, dedicated to instilling godly character in children.

“The journey of learning and researching Christian education has been eye-opening and impactful, renewing my understanding and commission as a Christian educator. Coming from an atheistic background, I once lost my way in my education and life’s purpose. The Lord called me as He called the Samaritan woman at the well. Only in Him is the living water that springs to eternity, satisfying our thirsty souls. The meaning and truth about education are found in Him, and we must make every effort to bring our children to the Lord to receive the living water.

By the grace of God, I was chosen as His instrument to serve the next generation of God’s people. It is my joy to see the children thrive when engaging in meaningful activities that lead them to live a life that pleases God. Everything is from the Lord and completed through the Lord. He has endowed me with creativity and other abilities to bless my work in teaching. My innovative Doctor of Ministry (DMin) project is dedicated to His glory.

In the wonderful journey of the DMin Program, I am thankful to the many professors, mentors, and colleagues whom He sent to guide, inspire, support, provide, and encourage me on the way toward completion. I am filled with gratitude for the provision, guidance, and faithfulness of the Lord, who has blessed every aspect of this work. May all glory and honor be unto Him now and forevermore.”

Dr. Pan’s testimony highlights the transformative power of Christian education and the importance of integrating faith into learning. As 91 continues to support and guide its students, the impact of such education resonates through the lives and ministries of its graduates.

First Year D.Min. Students Concludes Theological Foundations and Research

March 14, 2023

Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) students have just concluded the coursework on Global Theological Foundations for ministry taught by Dr. Donald Tinder, Dean of Zinzendorf School of Doctoral Studies, as well as Doctoral Research and Presentation by Dr. Creighton Marlowe.

The course guides the students to revisit the general concept of theology and doctrines through the overview study of the history of Christianity. After completing the course, D.Min. students are able to develop deep insights based on historical development and reflect on the challenges it poses on churches and the world today.

Through the course, Dr. Tinder believes students will be equipped as biblical scholars and leaders who know how to relate with or approach people from different backgrounds, religions, and denominations with the gospel.

Besides this course, D.Min. students also completed a study on doctoral research which provides students with the methods and materials necessary for adequate and appropriate research for producing a doctor of ministry thesis or project (biblical, theological, historical, missiological, or pastoral/practical).

By finishing assignments such as producing a good thesis statement, webliography, and editing a paper in conformity with the Turabian format, students gained practical experience with writing an academic paper capable of being published.

Zinzendorf School of Doctoral Studies Celebrates Diverse D.Min. Project Topics

August 1, 2022

Zinzendorf School of Doctoral Studies concluded another fruitful academic year, producing two dozen new doctorate holders. The doctoral program has seen an increase in the number of graduates and improved quality of D.Min. student projects.

It is noticeable that 2022 graduates’ papers underscore the practicality in their respective ministerial settings. In response to the contemporary issues, diverse DMin tracks, for instance, introduced the following topics such as “A Biblical Foundation of Hospitality Ministry and Its Workshop Program” (Education Track), “Christian Media Utilization Plan for Mission Today” (Gospel and IT Track), “21 Days Early Morning Prayer Training Based on John 17” (Spiritual Formation Track).

Doctor of Ministry Program Director Dr. Tom Cowley stated, “It is always my great joy and pleasure to see our doctoral graduates. I am profoundly grateful that those alumni will play a pivotal role in the world mission onward.”

“The chief forte of our doctoral program is its missional contribution from a global context by the active engagement of our graduates in mission ministries,” said Dr. William Wagner, Director of Olivet Institute for Global Strategic Studies.

91 Professors Host and Attend Global Strategic Forum 2022 Symposium

April 8, 2022

Olivet Institute for Global Strategic Studies Director Dr. William Wagner hosted over 30 global Christian leaders last week in Houston, Texas for the first-ever Global Strategy Forum symposium. Participating from 91 were members of the Zinderdrof School of Doctoral Studies committee: Dr. Tom Cowley, Dr. Ray Tallman, and Dr. Mark Wagner. Professor Mark and Calla Li from Olivet’s San Francisco campus attended as volunteers to help decorate the event, arrange technical equipment, drive, and photograph.

The forum brought leaders together to discuss how Christian influence could better penetrate Dr. Wagner’s 12 mountains of culture. These include Art, Business, Media, Family, Sports, Military, Migration, Technology, Government, and several others.

Christian leaders and thinkers, such as Chuck Bentley of the Christian Economic Forum, Timo Plutschinski Director of the WEA Business Coalition, and James Kramer, CEO of Commissioned LLC, gave keynote speeches that drilled into different areas of ministry where believers are now currently making progress. One theme was that although Christianity is going from a majority to a minority culture, believers must keep pushing forward with a Kingdom mindset, finding new ways to bring the Gospel to the ends of the earth.

The conference ended very hopefully with participants looking forward to seeing each other again in the future, and evaluating what sort of progress is being made in penetrating these mountains of culture.
